Technical Trainer, Food Manufacturing

Location: Stevenage & Leicester (dual-site role)

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

About the role

As Technical Trainer, you'll play a key role in building a strong food safety, quality and compliance culture. You'll design, deliver and continuously improve technical training that meets customer, legal and audit requirements, while supporting our teams to perform at their best every day.

You'll work closely with the Head of L&D, Technical and Operations teams to ensure our people have the right skills, at the right time and that our training is always audit-ready and easy to evidence.

This is a dual-site role, with regular presence required at both our Stevenage and Leicester sites.

What you'll be doing
Training delivery & design
  • Deliver core technical training including:
  • Food Safety Levels 1, 2 & 3
  • HACCP Level 2
  • GMP & Foreign Body Control
  • Allergen Awareness
  • Average Weight
  • Food Defense & GMP
  • Design, review and update training materials in partnership with the Head of L&D and Technical team.
  • Tailor content to different roles, shifts and learning styles.
Training coordination & systems (Papaya LMS)
  • Maintain and monitor training plans using our Papaya Learning Management System.
  • Manage training requests, calendars and external course bookings.
  • Ensure all training activity is fully documented, tracked and reportable for internal and external audits.
Training needs analysis & reporting
  • Work with managers and SMEs to identify training needs across both sites.
  • Plan training in line with operational priorities and shift patterns.
  • Create and share monthly training compliance reports for key stakeholders.
Trainer oversight & onboarding
  • Evaluate training effectiveness using feedback, assessments and performance data.
  • Support and enhance onboarding and induction programmes across both sites.
  • Assess, coach and audit trained trainers to maintain consistent standards.
Audit & compliance support
  • Support preparation for internal, customer and third‑party audits.
  • Ensure training records and documentation are always audit-ready.
  • Help implement and follow up on audit action plans related to training and competence.
How success will be measured
  • Food safety training compliance % by site and team
  • Audit readiness of training documentation and reduction in training‑related non‑conformances
  • Trainer performance and delegate feedback scores
  • Completion rates for SOP and role‑specific training by department

Qualifications (essential)
  • Level 4 Food Safety
  • HACCP certified (minimum Level 2)
  • Recognised training qualification - e.g. L3 Award in Education & Training (formerly PTLLS)
Experience
  • Experience in food manufacturing or a similar highly regulated environment.
  • Proven experience delivering food safety and compliance training.
  • Confident using a Learning Management System (e.g. Papaya) to manage training plans and records.
  • Experience creating and reporting on training compliance metrics.
Skills
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills - able to engage diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with credibility at all levels.
  • Highly organised, with strong planning and time management skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Confident creating training content for different learning styles and literacy levels.
  • Good IT skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word (intermediate to advanced).
