Job description

We are currently looking for a Technical Sales Manager to join one of our clients on a permanent basis.

The company is a worldwide designer and manufacturer of specialist engineering equipment used in a wide range of applications including oil and gas, power generation, and petrochemicals. This is an excellent opportunity to join a rapidly expanding and successful organisation.

Based in their purpose‑built premises in Hinckley, Leicestershire, the role will involve managing the customer relationship and meeting customer expectations from initial enquiry through to quotation and order receipt.

The successful applicant will have responsibility for managing existing customer relationships and actively identifying business development opportunities with both new and existing clients. They will be the first point of contact for customer enquiries and will deal with the process from enquiry through to customer quote, utilising the in‑house software, price list and quoting support tools. The role will also include taking an active role in developing the sales budget and delivering financial targets.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the Managing Director to prepare the yearly sales budget and revisit/reassess it quarterly.
  • Ensure actual sales performance meets or exceeds the budget, covering new business, historical and existing customer base.
  • Revisit dormant/historic UK accounts for new business opportunities and brief them into the business.
  • Manage current customer contracts, requirements and continue to strengthen relationships.
  • Obtain knowledge of the application and general design of company products and convey this effectively to customers.
  • Review and understand customer technical specifications related to product performance prior to briefing into the Managing Director and Engineering team.
  • Act as the initial technical contact point for enquiries and drive proactive discussions with clients regarding future project pipelines.
  • Use the in‑house engineering application software to select the appropriate type of silencer to meet customers' specifications.
  • Create an in‑house estimating tool to ensure the quotation process for standard parts runs smoothly with minimal engineering input.
  • Maintain and manage an updated price list to support the estimation process.
  • Help manage the Request for Quote (RFQ) process with outsourced subcontract partners and negotiate final purchase price to ensure best commercial value.
  • Prepare final sales submissions including margin levels and payment terms ahead of sign‑off by the MD/Sales and Commercial Manager.
  • Understand manufacturing processes, including fabrication, paint/finishing and experience in producing associated drawings.
  • Drive bid/no‑bid meetings and the commercial element of the contract review process.
  • Manage the financial performance of customer accounts via the finance team.
Qualifications & Experience
  • A minimum of HNC (preferably degree) in business or a related discipline, or equivalent level of experience, with a proven track record in a commercial engineering role.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including fabrication, paint/finishing and experience in producing associated drawings.
  • Previous experience in products for inlet and exhaust systems for various rotating equipment is preferred but not essential.
  • Experience working with SAP or a related ERP system.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel within the UK and overseas as required.

The role is a hybrid role with an equal split between home and office; however, it may involve some UK and overseas travel, so candidates must be flexible with regards to travel.

In return, the client offers an excellent remuneration package.
