Qualifications

Technical Coordinator

Location: Hereford

Salary: £31,919 per annum

The Role

The Technical Coordinator supports and coordinates practical, task‑based learning across the company's engineering curriculum, with a particular focus on electrical and electronic systems alongside mechanical and multidisciplinary engineering. The role ensures students experience safe, engaging, and effective hands‑on learning in workshops, labs, and project environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support engineering practical sessions, including demonstrations, applied project work, and hands‑on learning activities.
  • Prepare, maintain, and set up workshop equipment, tools, and materials for teaching and student projects.
  • Assist students with practical problem‑solving, design realisation, and the safe use of machinery and tools.
  • Contribute to the design and enhancement of practical learning activities and applied projects.
  • Supervise workshops, ensuring compliance with health and safety policies and maintaining induction and training records.
  • Support the planning and coordination of task‑based learning activities in collaboration with Programme Leads.
  • Monitor and manage consumables and materials, working closely with Workshop Technical Support.
  • Assist with continuous improvement of workshop processes, learning environments, and student experience.
  • Provide guidance to students, escalating complex issues to the Facilities Manager as appropriate.
Skills and Qualifications
Required:
  • Practical, hands‑on experience in engineering – ideally with exposure to electrical or electronic systems, but applicants from mechanical, manufacturing, or related engineering disciplines are also encouraged.
  • Experience working in workshops, labs, or technical environments where applied, practical learning takes place.
  • Strong understanding of engineering processes, tools, equipment, and fabrication or prototyping techniques (e.g., electrical test equipment, mechanical machinery, or mixed‑discipline systems).
  • Ability to support, guide, and engage students in safe, effective, and inclusive practical learning activities.
Desirable:
  • HNC (or equivalent) in electrical/electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, or another related discipline, or comparable industry experience.
  • Experience supporting learning, training, coaching, or mentoring in academic or professional settings.
  • Familiarity with task‑based, project‑led, or hands‑on learning approaches across different engineering disciplines.
