Technical Assistant - Environmental Services

Location: Essex

Contract Type: Full-Time, Temporary

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract Length: 6 months

Pay Rate: £23.00 PAYE

Working Arrangement: Hybrid - 2-3 days per week across depots

Minerva Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Technical Assistant to join a local council Environmental Services team on a full-time, temporary basis.

This is a varied and rewarding role for a proactive individual who enjoys problem-solving, working with data, and coordinating services to ensure efficient operations and excellent customer outcomes. You will support the management team in planning and coordinating key services, including grounds maintenance, waste, and street cleaning, while contributing to projects and service improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and enhance the efficiency of environmental services, including grounds maintenance, waste collection, and street cleaning
  • Analyse service data to identify opportunities for improvement and present findings to the management team
  • Respond to customer enquiries and complaints professionally and efficiently
  • Support the development of technical specifications for procurement of services and goods
  • Assist with budget monitoring and financial performance tracking
  • Liaise with contractors, internal departments, and external stakeholders
  • Help coordinate staff training and development activities
  • Maintain clear communication with the wider team and senior managers
  • Support a variety of projects including:
  • Drafting and reviewing environmental enforcement policies
  • Procurement and management of contractors
  • Reviewing staffing and overtime costs
  • Developing health & safety communications for operational teams
  • Supporting roll-out of food waste and recycling initiatives to flats and new developments
  • Analysing trial projects, including resident feedback and performance data
What We're Looking For
  • Minimum of 6 GCSEs grade C or above, including English and Maths
  • Experience delivering frontline services or managing service contracts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
  • Strong customer service and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Analytical and organised with the ability to work across multiple projects
