Job description
Offer Description
About us

The Department of Informatics is launching a new hybrid (online/in-person) programme, the MSc Advanced Cyber Security (SE Asia), as part of our global online degree offerings. To support the delivery of world‑renowned teaching in this programme and to contribute more broadly to the excellence in education within the Department, we are seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow in Cybersecurity Education (1‑year fixed‑term contract, Grade 6).

Candidates should demonstrate ambition to become scholars of international standing, with a research and publication trajectory in Computer Science Education that reflects this goal.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing department and contribute to our vision of a diverse, inclusive, and innovative Department of Informatics at one of the UK’s most prestigious universities. We welcome applicants who share our commitment to inclusivity and diversity.

We encourage applications from candidates with an international research profile in areas such as: Systems security, Security engineering, Security testing, Computer forensics, AI for security and privacy, Security and privacy of AI.

Our department addresses computer science challenges from a broad perspective. Faculty members regularly publish in and serve on the program committees of top‑tier venues in computer science and cybersecurity. High‑quality research establishes our faculty as leaders in their fields, enabling us to serve society while supporting King’s College London as a leading institution in science and technology.

The department also maintains strong industry links, collaborating on research projects with external partners.

The successful candidate will teach on our forthcoming transnational and hybrid Master’s programme in Advanced Cyber Security (SE Asia), starting in September 2026. While the postholder will be based in London, this hybrid programme requires the postholder to travel to Indonesia for extended periods to conduct in‑person induction, teaching, and other activities on a local campus.

The postholder will enhance the education and experiences of our students, both on the transnational programme and more broadly on our on‑campus undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, teaching engaging, up‑to‑date courses and contributing to the development of our curricula and teaching methods.

We offer undergraduate and postgraduate education (in both computer science and artificial intelligence) catering for the needs of our students and the organisations in which they will work. It is essential that applicants have the enthusiasm and commitment needed to ensure the success of these programmes.

The successful candidate will be appointed to a research group and will have the opportunity to contribute to cross‑cutting hubs (see https://www.kcl.ac.uk/informatics/research/groups). Research collaboration across research groups, with departmental hubs and with other Departments in the Faculty and across the College is strongly encouraged.

This is a Full‑time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed‑term contract for 1 year.

About the role
  • Make significant contributions to the teaching, examining and project supervision of students in the Department of Informatics.
  • Establish and disseminate innovative teaching practices in the department.
  • Deliver an excellent student experience through innovative teaching and assessment methods for both undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes, in core computer science and a specialist in computer science or artificial intelligence.
  • Enthusiastically contribute to academic management and support the administration and development of the department to further its education, research activities, and ambitions.
  • Undertake a self‑directed programme of scholarship in cybersecurity education at a level commensurate with current international standard.
  • Act as personal tutor to students as agreed with the Head of Department, assist with difficulties, e.g. learning support/problems and be responsible for the pastoral care of students.
  • Contribute fully and conscientiously to administrative tasks in the department.
  • Actively promote and participate in equality, diversity and collegiality.
  • Travel to Indonesia approximately 1–3 times per year (2–3 weeks per visit), to carry out teaching on a local campus.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Head of Department.

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

  • PhD in computer science, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence or related field.

  • Ability to make a significant contribution to administrative work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with a range of audiences, including students, academic and professional services colleagues, and cultural and industry partners.
  • Ability to work and travel overseas (Indonesia) and secure the relevant visas (for 3 trips of 2 weeks)
  • Industrial experience in computer science, or research experience in computer science education.
  • Experience of innovative and effective approaches to teaching
