Roles & Responsibilities:

The Teaching Assistant will be expected to undertake specialized support duties, including:

  • EAL/SEN Provision: Implement specific strategies outlined in individual education plans (IEPs) or EAL action plans, providing targeted language or learning support.
  • Behaviour Interventions: Work proactively with the Class Teacher to manage and diffuse challenging pupil behaviour, focusing on restorative practices.
  • Foundation Skills: Lead intensive small-group phonics (Letters and Sounds) and basic numeracy intervention sessions.
  • Resource Adaptation: Adapt and differentiate learning materials to make them culturally relevant and linguistically accessible for diverse learners.
  • Home-School Communication: Assist in bridging communication gaps between the school and parents who may have language barriers.
  • Data Collection: Systematically track and record evidence of pupil progress, particularly in relation to their language acquisition and specific learning targets.
Requirements

The school requires applicants to demonstrate:

  • Qualification: An NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (or a related qualification) is essential.
  • Experience: Recent, demonstrable experience supporting children with EAL and/or Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) in a UK primary setting.
  • Skills: Certification or training in positive behaviour management (e.g., Team Teach, restorative justice).
  • Personal Qualities: High levels of flexibility, patience, and cultural awareness suited to a multicultural school.
  • Compliance: Must possess a current Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service.
