Job summary

Job description

Springwood High School are seeking to appoint a motivated and dedicated Teaching Assistant (APSA), to join their friendly team.

Start Date: January 2026
Salary: Scale C Point 4 £13.05/hour approx. £16,757/annum (FTE £25,185 based on a 37 hour week – please note salary will be pro rata)

Hours: 28.75 hours/week - 39 weeks (term time plus one)

Purpose of the Job

As an Achievement and Progress Support Assistant, you will work with teachers to raise the learning and attainment of pupils while also promoting their independence, self‑esteem, and social inclusion. You will provide support to pupils so that they can access the curriculum, participate in learning, and experience a sense of achievement.

Responsibilities
  • Personal and Professional Conduct: having proper regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school and demonstrating positive attitudes, values and behaviours to develop and sustain effective relationships with the school community, while safeguarding pupils’ well‑being by following statutory guidance and school policies.
  • Upholding values: respecting individual differences and cultural diversity.
  • Knowledge and Understanding: acquiring the appropriate skills, qualifications, and experience required for the teaching assistant role; demonstrating expertise in understanding the needs of all pupils (including specialist expertise where appropriate); keeping knowledge up to date through reflection, liaison with school leaders and professional development; demonstrating subject and curriculum knowledge relevant to the role and applying it effectively when supporting teachers and pupils.
  • Teaching and Learning: adopting relevant strategies to support the work of the teacher and increase achievement of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities; promoting inclusion by encouraging participation of all pupils in learning and extracurricular activities; using effective behaviour management strategies consistently with the school’s policy; contributing to assessment and planning by supporting the monitoring, recording and reporting of pupil progress.
  • Working with Others: demonstrating an efficient approach to teaching and learning, adopting strategies that support teachers and increase pupil achievement; encouraging participation and inclusion; using effective behaviour management consistently; supporting assessment and planning with monitoring, recording and reporting of pupil progress.
