Job description
General Teaching Assistant - Year 3 with SEN Responsibilities - Harrow

Salary: £100 - £120 per day | Start date: ASAP | Contract: Long term, full time

About the Role

We are appointing a versatile General Teaching Assistant to work in a Year 3 class at a welcoming mainstream primary school in Harrow. Alongside core classroom support-preparing resources, circulating during lessons and guiding table groups-you will take lead responsibility for two targeted SEN pathways. You will deliver structured speech and language interventions for one pupil, implementing therapist-led programmes, embedding visuals and Now and Next routines, modelling language and scaffolded sentences, and monitoring progress against clear targets. You will also support another pupil with autism, establishing predictable routines, using social stories and sensory breaks, applying strategies such as Zones of Regulation and calm de-escalation, and liaising daily with the class teacher and SENCo to review triggers, adaptations and next steps. Strong communication with parents and outside professionals is a key part of the role.

About the School

Inclusive, community-focused primary with a well-established SEN provision

Leadership team that prioritises coaching, wellbeing and high-quality training

Excellent transport links across Harrow, including Harrow-on-the-Hill (Metropolitan Line and National Rail), Harrow & Wealdstone (Bakerloo Line and Overground), North Harrow and West Harrow, plus frequent bus routes

What We're Looking For
  • Recent experience in Key Stage 2, ideally within Year 3
  • Confidence delivering speech and language activities and supporting a pupil with autism
  • Skilled at creating structured, low-arousal environments and using positive behaviour strategies
  • Familiarity with PECS, Makaton or TEACCH is desirable
  • Team Teach or other positive handling training is an advantage but not essential
  • Organised record-keeper who can track outcomes and contribute to review meetings
What's on Offer
  • £100 - £120 per day, paid weekly
  • ASAP start in a long-term post with scope to grow into added responsibility such as HLTA or SEN lead
  • Ongoing CPD in communication strategies, autism support and behaviour management, with regular mentoring from the inclusion team
