About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Teacher of Design & Technology to join an Outstanding independent special school in Somerset. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire and engage students with SEMH and SEND needs through practical, hands‑on learning in DT. You will deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, fostering creativity, problem‑solving, and technical skills in a supportive, therapeutic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver high‑quality DT lessons across KS3 and KS4, tailored to individual needs.
  • Develop engaging projects in areas such as resistant materials, product design, and CAD/CAM.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive learning environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and support.
  • Contribute to the wider school community, including extracurricular activities and enrichment opportunities.
Requirements
  • Essential:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching Design & Technology at secondary level.
  • Strong classroom management and ability to differentiate for diverse learning needs.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (or willing to apply for one).
  • Desirable:
  • Experience working with students with SEMH or SEND.
  • Knowledge of trauma‑informed and therapeutic approaches.
  • Familiarity with vocational pathways and practical workshop skills.
