We're looking for a Support Worker to be part of one person's journey to live life their way in Exeter.
They love music, social media, shopping trips, women's football and exploring new places. To help them do more of what they enjoy, we need someone local who knows Exeter, can drive their car, and holds a full UK licence.
You’ll provide 1:1 (sometimes 2:1) support, both at home and in the community from meaningful activities to keeping their home comfortable. You'll need to be a calm and nurturing person who has really strong communication skills. You also need to be able to be friendly and supportive but keep those strong professional boundaries in place to successfully support this young lady.
She communicates with her family regularly, especially mum, so it's really important that we're all clear and consistent with messages so there is no confusion. The young lady is very communicative when she's in the "green" and has great verbal communication skills but also loves communicating in written form i.e. text messages, emails and written notes. However as she starts moving through "amber" and "red" her ability to communicate deteriorates. She doesn't like visual aids or symbols, and can struggle with tone, so can be upset or offended if she takes something the wrong way or thinks you were being disrespectful. You may need to explain common sayings as she can take things quite literally, and to check if she's understood something it's always good to get her to repeat something back to you!
We're looking for someone empathetic, patient, and flexible, ideally with experience supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, behaviours that can be seen as challenging, mental health needs, or brain injury.
