We are currently looking to recruit a Support Worker to provide support for a 7‑year‑old boy who has a diagnosis of Autism and delayed development in social interaction. The purpose of this role is to enable him to access the community safely, take part in activities he enjoys, and give his family some time away.
He is very energetic, loves interacting with people, and often runs away. Constant supervision is essential to ensure his safety, especially outside. He has no danger awareness and is unaware of his personal safety.
He can display challenging behaviours such as throwing things and hitting out, sometimes without specific triggers. Familiarity with safe restraint would be ideal, but training and support will be provided.
The support worker will facilitate stimulating activities such as soft play, bowling, walks, and visits to the local park. A physical role requiring general good health, lifting equipment or items he has climbed on, and keeping pace when at the park.
Experience supporting children with ASD/Autism/ADHD is required. Comfortable keeping up physically, setting boundaries, disciplining, and firmly telling him when he has done something he shouldn’t.
The ideal candidate is fun, outgoing, confident, and can be firm when needed. Personal care tasks include toileting, cleaning up, and hand washing. Driver with own transport and mileage reimbursement is an advantage but not essential.
Proactive in suggesting community activities and willing to find varying activities to take part in.
Rate of pay £13.74 per hour. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro‑rated.
