Job description
Overview

We are currently recruiting a Support Assistant to join our team in Southend, on a full-time basis (37.5 hours per week). The service accommodates 13 residents, each living in their own self-contained flats, fostering independence and community. This is a 24-hour service supporting adults with learning disabilities or mental ill health, with a mix of day, early and late shifts and optional sleep-in shifts. The home offers a private garden area and local off-road parking. There is an exciting time to join the service as new activities are being offered by the team.

For the successful applicant, there will be variety in day-to-day work, along with excellent training. You will support residents with person-centred care and provide a choice of daily activities to promote a meaningful quality of life, maintaining and developing independence within the home and enabling access to the community.

Responsibilities
  • Provide person-centred support to people with all aspects of daily living, including personal care and involvement in the community.
  • Maintain records of support provided and actively contribute to support planning and periodic reviews.
  • Contribute to the corporate core values of Respect, One Estuary, Accountable and Responsible.
  • Support a 24-hour service that is Caring, Safe and Responsive to the needs of the people we support in an Effective and Well Led manner.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with residents and key stakeholders such as family, friends and advocates.
  • Take responsibility for shift leading as per the rota in operation.
  • Actively participate in regular team meetings, supervisions and other meetings.
  • Complete all mandatory training within specified time frames.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Basic understanding of promoting the needs, rights, equality, and diversity of people we support, including those with disabilities.
  • Basic knowledge of regulators and legislation governing the service and where to find this information.
  • Effective communication skills (oral, written, and electronic) with colleagues, professionals and the people we support.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • An understanding of Learning Disabilities is desirable.
  • Full training will be provided; a candidate new to the sector can fulfil the role following a successful interview, with support to complete the Care Certificate during probation.
