Job summary

A leading food business in the UK is seeking an experienced Supply Chain Manager to oversee the complete supply chain from inbound to outbound activities. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of the food manufacturing industry and experience in managing teams. Responsibilities include demand planning, liaising with customers and suppliers, and ensuring optimal stock levels. Familiarity with SAP is preferred. This role is ideal for those with a background in UK and European food operations.

Job description

GBR Recruitment are proud to be recruiting exclusively for a leading food business, an experienced Supply Chain Manager, to lead the end-to‑end supply chain for all inbound & outbound activities.

In this key head of supply chain role, you will be responsible for all imported inbound food products & all outbound food products being distributed to food retail & food wholesale customers UK wide.

You will be managing the whole supply chain process from food product supplier sourcing & purchasing, contract negotiations with 3PL suppliers (chilled food storage & hauliers), food product goods receipts, stock analysis & trend analysis, ensuring by accurate forecasting that current stock holding levels meets customer demands to fulfil food product orders OTIF & to the quality required.

Strong knowledge & experience within the food manufacturing industry is a must in this key role.

This supply chain management role would suit someone with experience in UK & European food operations, someone who has had exposure to both or worked in a European Group would be ideal.

This foodie uses SAP software, so someone with SAP experience would be perfect.

Main Duties
  • Manage the end-to-end supply chain for an array of food product lines for retail / wholesale.
  • Liaising regularly with end using food retail & wholesale customers, food products suppliers & 3PL providers, ensuring all customers sales orders / stock deliveries are achieved OTIF.
  • Management of demand planning & forecasting, ensuring supply meets customer demand.
  • Successfully managing customer supply using a lean approach (reducing costs / overheads).
  • Managing 3rd party logistics & warehousing providers, managing both costs & performance.
  • Manage all import documentation & liaise effectively with import agents.
  • Set-up new inbound food products on SAP.
  • Secure regular & accurate customer forecasts to input into the demand planning model.
  • Monitor demand forecast & amend forecasts accordingly (seasonal trends, promotions etc.).
  • Working to decrease overall stock holding levels & to successfully reduce wherever possible supply chain costs, without affecting customer supply or the quality of the products.
  • Create KPI's to track Supply Chain performance & to ensure target costs / budgets are met.
  • Manage, mentor, train & develop the Demand Planner & Customer Service team members.
  • Supporting the SMT & MD with continuous improvement measures (leaner & smarter ways).
Attributes
  • Supply Chain Management experience within food / fresh produce is a must.
  • Experience of dealing with outside 3rd party business partners: customers, suppliers, 3PL storage and transportation providers (Essential).
  • Import experience would be useful (desirable).
  • Frozen food products experience would be useful (not essential).
  • Experience of managing teams of more than 2.
  • Experience of SAP (desirable) or other ERP systems.
  • Strong demand planning & forecasting skills.
  • Strong stock management skills, ensuring stock holding volumes are concise.
  • Accurate KPI / MI reporting skills with the ability to proactively analyse & validate data.
  • Strong competency in the use of Excel, Word & Power Point.
  • Previous hands‑on experience of working in an SME sized company.
