Student Wellbeing Advisor
Location: Leicester
We are seeking a dedicated Student Wellbeing Advisor to join our Welfare & Skills team. This role is crucial in supporting students with welfare and mental health difficulties and involves being an active member of the Safeguarding Team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and coordinating support mechanisms and advocating on behalf of students to enhance their wellbeing and academic success.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Provide information, resources, and signposting to students tailored to their individual needs.
- Act as an advocate for students with welfare and/or mental health difficulties.
- Maintain a register of students with welfare and mental health needs in collaboration with the Designated Mental Health Lead - Students & the Welfare Lead Advisor.
- Deliver wellbeing sessions, including mindfulness and resilience programs, to proactively support students.
- Form effective partnerships with external agencies to enhance support for students.
- Participate in the Fitness to Study process, including meetings with students and their parents, tracking student progress, and supporting documentation and recording processes.
- Administer Exam Access arrangements for students with medical and mental health needs.
- Track and support students to monitor and aid their academic progress.
- Maintain highly confidential and sensitive records.
- Organize on-campus events to support student wellbeing throughout the year.
- Offer advice and support to staff, students, parents/carers, and external agencies regarding wellbeing matters.
- Support the Designated Person in monitoring the progress of Looked After Children, including organizing and attending PEP meetings.
- Act as a first responder within the Welfare team for students with immediate needs.
- Be an active member of the safeguarding team, participating in the team rota to respond to urgent needs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of welfare and mental health issues affecting students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to act as an advocate.
- Experience in handling confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work effectively with various internal and external stakeholders.
