Job description
Job Summary

The Trust sits at the heart of the community as the main provider of acute care to around 250,000 people in the west of Dorset. Our main site is in the county town of Dorchester near the world‑famous Jurassic Coast. We are expanding our team to appoint an additional Stroke Consultant to support the development of Hyper Acute Stroke Care and the expansion of the Stroke Team at Dorset County Hospital.

Main Duties
  • In‑patient and out‑patient care for patients referred with suspected stroke or TIA
  • Participate in clinical and other activities such as audit, research and governance to ensure ongoing high standards of patient care
  • Contribute to the provision of a 24‑hour acute stroke service delivering thrombolysis and advising on other specialist treatments
  • Contribute to consultant ward rounds at weekends and public holidays
  • Provide clinical advice for community stroke services as required
  • Provide continuing medical education and conduct undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as appropriate
  • Contribute to the development of clinical quality and effectiveness in other clinical areas that overlap with stroke care
Working Pattern

We are looking for 1 WTE (10 sessions per week) or 0.5 WTE (5 sessions per week).

Person Specification – Education, Qualifications & Training
  • Appropriate higher medical qualification – MRCP or overseas equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights
Experience & Knowledge
  • At least 5 years clinical experience in stroke medicine
  • Demonstrated potential ability to cope with the demands of a DGH‑based Consultant

Salary

£109,725 to £145,478 per annum (pro rata) plus potential Warm Welcome payment.
