Strategy and Performance Manager

Function: Commercial

Location: Hybrid 2 days a week - Nottingham

Contract type: Permanent

Salary: £46,524 with the opportunity to rise to £54,735 within 3 years.

As a key member of the Commercial Directorate, the Strategy & Performance Manager will lead the development and execution of strategic initiatives and performance management across NHS Supply Chain. This role is pivotal in driving alignment between strategic priorities and operational delivery, ensuring robust performance tracking, and engaging senior stakeholders to support data‑driven decision‑making.

You will be able to demonstrate a strategic mindset, be organisationally and interpersonally savvy, and possess strong commercial acumen to plan and align key areas. You will confidently communicate with internal and external stakeholders, build networks, and drive results. You will have a programme of success in planning, managing, and organising resources within short to medium timescales in a matrix organisation.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, delivery, and governance of identified strategic initiatives and annual commercial planning cycles.
  • Participate in the development of the commercial strategy applying functional expertise and applying creative ideas and insights.
  • Own, evolve and maintain the commercial business plan ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
  • Responsibility for the total landscape view and horizon scanning activity to aid business scenario modelling.
  • Oversee project management tools and methodologies, ensuring consistency, version control, and delivery assurance.
  • Provide strategic insight and recommendations to senior leadership through high‑quality analysis and reporting.
  • Act as a strategic partner to senior leaders across NHS Supply Chain, NHS England, and DHSC.
  • Build strong relationships across the organisation to ensure alignment and buy‑in for strategic initiatives.
  • Act as a role model and mentor for junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
  • Ensure effective internal communications and storytelling, working closely with the Internal Communications team.
  • Champion best practices in data management, reporting, and strategic planning.

Key Skills
  • Demonstrable experience of planning, managing, and organising resources within short/medium timescales.
  • Degree educated or equivalent work experience.
  • Substantial experience in a strategy, performance, or business planning role.
  • Experience working in or with the NHS, healthcare, or public sector is highly desirable.
  • Strategic mindset with a track record of delivering complex initiatives.
  • Organisational savvy and ability to navigate matrix structures.
  • Commercially aware, especially within NHS/public sector contexts.
  • Data-driven decision-maker with strong reporting and analytical skills.
