Overview

Ward 8C is a 28 bedded Diabetes and Endocrine Ward with a general medicine bed base. As a registered Nurse you’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing direct patient care. You could support people with learning disabilities, provide end of life care, or contribute to saving lives on Ward 8C. There is opportunity to specialise in areas of nursing or undertake postgraduate study to become a more senior nurse, such as a ward manager, sister or matron. Following successful completion of preceptorship (newly qualified) or SPN period (if you have previous Band 5 experience), you will be required to take charge of an area for a span of duty.

The post holder will always work within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate nursing care as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Undertake delegated tasks from the ward manager/charge nurse.
  • Take charge of an area for a span of duty after successful preceptorship or SPN period.
  • Carry out safe drug administration and ensure documentation is completed in line with NMC guidelines.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, relatives and colleagues; plan and implement safe discharge in liaison with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Carry out venipuncture, cannulation, VBG, ABG, blood cultures, catheterisation and managing PEG feeding where appropriate.
  • Document all care as per NMC guidelines and ensure risk assessments are completed within expected timeframes.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Registered Nurse (Band 5) with current NMC registration.
  • Post-qualification development through preceptorship or SPN period as applicable.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and communicate effectively to optimise care for unwell patients.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe environment for patients, relatives and colleagues.
  • Interest in developing clinical knowledge to care for unwell adults and ability to manage safe discharge planning.
