Job description

The Urology diagnostics and lithotripsy department has a vacancy for a Band 5 nurse to deliver high quality nursing care in keeping with the trust's values and behaviours in an ambulatory care setting. We are a rapidly evolving unit that provides specialist urology clinics that are second to none, are one of four leading centres offering the RAPID pathway for suspected prostate cancer, and offer recent innovations in our hot‑stones lithotripsy service and our nurse‑led prostate biopsy service.

This is an ideal opportunity to develop skills in cutting‑edge urology diagnostics and to become an effective leader. You will work alongside nurses and the administrative team to promote a great patient experience.

The department offers a Monday‑to‑Friday service with clinics. You should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess the clinical skills required to perform and assist in procedures within a busy outpatient department.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure patient safety is maintained.
  • Undertake assessment, planning and evaluation of urology patients.
  • Promote a culture of demonstrable best practice and integrated evidence‑based practice.
  • Act as patient advocate where relevant, facilitating informed discussion concerning treatment options and ensuring informed consent.
  • Work collaboratively and co‑operatively with clinical colleagues to ensure a cost‑effective and quality Urology Service.
  • Carry out nurse‑led procedures within the urology unit, such as flow rates, trial‑without‑catheter clinics, bladder scans, urine dips, complex catheter changes, assisting with prostate biopsy, flexible cystoscopy clinics and lithotripsy.
  • Communicate and coordinate with the multi‑professional teams locally, and with referring units.
  • Provide specialist information and support to urology patients in the unit/ward areas and OPD.
  • Participate in nurse‑led clinics to meet patient needs and service demand.
  • Provide support and care for the patient and their family, respecting their need for privacy and dignity.
  • Produce written communications that are clear, fluent, concise and easily understood.
