Job description
Job Description
Staff Nurse – Radiology
Springfield Hospital
Full Time - 37.5 Hours

We are seeking a proactive, skilled, and compassionate Radiology Staff Nurse to join our dynamic Imaging Department. This role is ideal for a nurse who enjoys working in a fast‑paced diagnostic environment, with a strong commitment to patient care, clinical safety, and continuous learning.

As a Radiology Nurse, you will play a pivotal role in supporting patients throughout their imaging pathway — providing clinical care before, during, and after imaging procedures such as Ultrasound, CT, MRI, Mammography and interventional studies. You will work closely with radiologists, radiographers, healthcare assistants, and ward staff to ensure high‑quality, efficient, and safe care delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide professional, high‑quality nursing care to patients attending the Imaging Department.
  • Assist with pre‑procedure assessments and prepare patients for contrast‑enhanced imaging, biopsies, or interventional procedures.
  • Monitor patients during and post‑procedure, including the management of cannulation, contrast reactions, and other clinical interventions where needed.
  • Support the coordination of patient flow and case prioritisation across imaging modalities, particularly during high‑demand periods.
  • Clinical documentation.
  • Assist in maintaining emergency equipment, drug cupboards, and clinical stock levels in the department.
  • Provide clinical support and supervision to HCAs and junior staff, encouraging ongoing development and high standards of care.
  • Work collaboratively with Manager, radiologists and radiographers to support smooth patient pathways and escalation where clinical concerns arise.
  • Actively contribute to service improvement, audits, and clinical governance within the department.
  • To maintain a broad range of clinical competencies, the post holder may have the opportunity to provide occasional nursing support to the inpatient ward, in agreement with their line manager.
  • Flexibility required to cover varying shift patterns, including early, mid, and late shifts, to ensure departmental coverage and meet patient needs.
  • Shift patterns may be adjusted depending on operational requirements.
Person Specification
Essential
  • NMC‑registered adult nurse with suitable post‑registration experience.
  • Competent in cannulation (or willingness to undertake training).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Calm, organised, and adaptable in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong interest in diagnostic imaging and patient care pathways.
Desirable
  • Previous experience in radiology, theatres, or outpatient procedural areas.
  • Knowledge of imaging workflows and RIS/PACS systems.
Benefits
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Attractive enhancement rates for permanent and bank work: 30%‑100% for evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus eight Bank Holiday days
  • Family friendly policies including enhanced parental leave
  • Private healthcare and life assurance
  • Free uniform and DBS check
  • Free onsite parking and a subsidised staff restaurant
  • Access to our employee discount programme
  • Wellbeing Centre and access to 24/7 employee assistance line
  • Long service, employee recognition and appreciation awards
  • Access to the Ramsay Academy giving you genuine opportunities to grow, develop and specialise in your career
