Overview

Main duties involve caring for patients undergoing dialysis, ensuring a high standard of care. Responsibilities include medication rounds, infection prevention and keeping care plans up to date, commencing treatments and disconnecting patients to enable safe discharge home. Work as part of a team to meet time schedules and maintain a smooth ward flow.



Responsibilities


  • Co-ordinate, organise and prioritise the work of the nursing team on a day-to-day basis.

  • Maintain effective and efficient communication with the Ward/Unit Manager and members of the multi-disciplinary team on issues related to patient care and the organisation of nursing teams.

  • Maintain up-to-date skills, knowledge and competence and awareness of professional issues.

  • Continually monitor standards of nursing care and contribute to improvement through benchmarking, audit and research.

  • Act as a professional and clinical role model to all staff, patients, carers and the public at all times.

Role specifics

Working patterns

Units are open from 07:00–23:00, Monday to Saturday. Shift patterns include early 7:00–18:00 and late 12:00–23:00, with one 7:00–15:00, 11:00–19:00 or 15:00–23:00 shift per week.



Qualifications and attributes


  • Previous experience in renal/hemodialysis is desirable but not essential; full in-house training and support provided.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently.

  • A positive and proactive attitude.

  • A commitment to delivering a high standard of care to chronically ill patients.

  • Flexible working will be considered.
