We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Staff Nurse on Mulberry 1, thisis a 14-bedded acute assessment mental health ward for adults aged 18-65 years.

As part of our commitment to high-quality care, Mulberry 1 provides rapid assessment and short-term support for individuals experiencing acute mental health needs. The ward plays a vital role in stabilising patients and planning their next steps in treatment and recovery.

Our team is passionate about staff development. You will receive comprehensive training to build the core skills required for this role, and we actively support access to further learning and professional growth opportunities.

Main duties of the job
  • The post holder will work as part of a team to provide a safe, effective, efficient care environment for patients, relatives, and carers. They will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care and support plans for the mental and physical health needs of service users, under indirect supervision from senior staff.
  • The post holder is expected to be able to identify and contribute to the training needs of junior staff, demonstrating procedures and supervising non-registered staff, and to work without direct supervision once the key learning outcomes of the preceptorship programme are complete.

  • To carry out a full range of registered nurse duties, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patients condition and care with support from the nurse in charge.
  • To establish therapeutic relationships with service users, and the implementation of evidence based therapeutic interventions with appropriate boundaries in accordance with NMC professional code of conduct.
  • To understand NICE quality standards and guidance relevant to area of practice and patient group.
  • To prioritise nursing care, recognise deterioration in a patients condition and alert senior staff immediately.
  • Participate in the health education and explanation of treatment to patients and relatives.
  • Maintain a safe environment when caring for patients, including those requiring enhanced levels of monitoring.
  • To promote involvement of service users, carers, and relatives within the service and for its provision.
  • To ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 2007 are observed, adhered to, and implemented.

Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse Mental Health (RNMH) or other specialism relating to post such as Registered Nurse Learning Disability (RNLD) or Registered Nurse Children's (RNC)
  • NMC registration
  • Post graduate qualification relating to ward specialism
Experience
  • Experience of in-patient services and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Basic level of dealing with service users with complex mental health needs
  • Experience of providing mentorship
  • Experience relating to ward specialism
  • Lived experience of mental health
  • Experience of providing individual, culturally sensitive care
Skills & Abilities
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written, including IT literacy (MS Office)
