Overview

We are seeking a permanent Band 6 Speech & Language Therapist specializing in dysphagia and complex needs to join our Community Children's Therapy Team in West Essex, covering Uttlesford, Harlow, and Epping Forest. You'll be part of the Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service developed in partnership with Barnardo's, where we prioritise efficiency and put more time into meaningful interactions with children and families to improve health outcomes in the community. You will assess, diagnose, and provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions for infants, children and young people aged 0-19 years, across community settings and local specialist educational provisions.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, diagnose, and provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions for infants, children and young people 0–19 years, including dysphagia and complex needs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans to support safe swallowing and effective communication.
Collaborative Working
  • Partner with colleagues across the Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service, including the Community Nursing Team, Healthy Family Team, Paediatric Community Dietitian Service, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy Services, and Community Paediatricians.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders such as Health, Education, and Social Care professionals to ensure holistic care.
Training & Support
  • Provide training and guidance to families, carers, and professionals on dysphagia management and therapy approaches.
  • Offer clinical advice and consultation to multidisciplinary team members.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of assessments, care plans, and interventions.
  • Ensure compliance with professional standards, clinical guidelines, and organizational policies.
Qualifications
  • A recognized degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Post-qualification training and experience in dysphagia and complex needs.
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Membership in the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
Experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing complex cases involving dysphagia in pediatric populations.
  • Experience working in community or multidisciplinary settings is desirable.

  • A valid UK driving license and access to a car for work purposes.
