Job summary

A leading education services provider in Chelmsford, Essex is seeking a motivated Speech, Language and Communication Needs Teaching Assistant to start in January 2026. This long-term role will involve assisting students with speech and language difficulties, implementing individualised therapy plans, and supporting the overall classroom environment. Ideal candidates will have a relevant bachelor's degree and experience working with children, especially those with special needs. Qualifications

  • Experience working in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH).

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons.
  • Work with children on a 1:1 and small group basis.
  • Conduct sessions to practice speech and language skills.
  • Monitor and document student progress.
  • Support students during classroom activities.

Skills

Experience with children with speech and language difficulties
Strong communication skills
Knowledge of additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD and SEMH

Education

Bachelor's degree in speech and language pathology or related field
