We have an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our Neurodiversity team at HMP Thameside, a categoryB Prison located in Greenwich, South-East London. In this role you'll be working with a multi-disciplinary team that will support you and help you succeed.

Hours

Monday to Wednesday - 08:00 - 16:00. This is a part time role, working 18.75 hours per week (2.5 days).

Salary

Your annual salary is up to £53,172 per annum FTE - depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As a Speech and Language Therapist your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Provide assessments of service users based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of information
  • Provide timely and accurate reports that provide a diagnosis, assessment and recommendations and comply with best practice guidelines
  • Communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner information concerning the communication assessment, formulation and treatment plans of service users and to monitor progress during the course of both individual and multi-disciplinary care
  • Work with service users and other members of the MDT to achieve identified goals and to promote social inclusion, independence and well-being
  • Formulate and implement treatment programmes for the management of service user's communication needs and provide advice to service users with communication difficulties
  • Develop and implement individual and /or group interventions, in collaboration with service users and the MDT to achieve therapeutic goals

Requirements

  • Recognised Speech & Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • Experience of working as a Speech and Language Therapist in a large multi-disciplinary team, ideally across multiple sites/locations
  • Health Professions Council Licence to Practice

Job responsibilities

As the Speech and Language Therapist, you need expert clinical skills and be able to take a holistic approach to patient-centred care. Delivering with autonomy a comprehensive speech and language therapy service to your own caseload within the prison, inclusive of a comprehensive specialist assessment and differential diagnosis of all aspects of communication, language, speech, voice, fluency, eating and drinking for patients referred to the service. You will:

  • Provide outstanding evidenced-based care to our patients, seeking out, listening to and acting on their feedback, so that care is personalised and informed by what matters to them; resulting in holistic plans of care for all patients on your caseload. You will provide clinical leadership for Speech and Language pathway within the prison. Working in a multi-disciplinary team made up of a variety of registered and non-registered professionals including; primary care, mental health, social care, end of life care and substance misuse practitioners. You will act as a role model ensuring professional appearance and maintaining professional standards at all times.
  • Deliver non-judgemental care that makes a real difference, as defined throughout our bespoke Health in Justice Competency framework that seeks to provide the best possible outcomes for our patients.
  • Inspire excellence by forging strong links with your peers, our partners and stakeholders and providing a service that people can trust, feel safe within, and feel proud to be included.
  • Promote best practice, clinical supervision, evidence based care and continuous quality improvement, embedding a culture of shared learning. Contributing to the wider governance framework to promote learning and best practice.
