A leading healthcare provider in London is seeking a Specialty Doctor in Developmental Paediatrics to join their well-established Developmental Team. The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary team, providing assessments for children with neurodevelopmental issues, ensuring high standards of care and compliance with clinical governance. Candidates should have relevant clinical training, strong communication skills, and experience in managing complicated clinical cases.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Community Paediatrics and LAC assessments required.
  • Ability to compile comprehensive reports within defined timescales.
  • Active involvement in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Responsibilities

Specialty Doctor in Developmental Paediatrics

There is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established Developmental Team, within the Neurodevelopmental and Neurodisability (NDND) Care Group in the paediatric Directorate at St Georges' Hospital.

The postholder will undertake regular Developmental Clinics and LAC Clinics within the Neurodevelopmental and Neurodisability Care Group as part of plans to meet rising service needs and replace a retiring staff member. The post holder will be working alongside the Named Doctor and Nurse for Looked After Children and the rest of the wider LAC team, who all contribute to delivering the clinical aspect of the LAC service. The post holder will ensure a high standard of care is achieved and maintained within their organisation demonstrating effective leadership skills and working within a team.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties:

  • Provide clinics for the assessment and management of children with suspected neurodevelopmental delay or disorders such as ADHD or ASD
  • LAC - Provide clinics for IHA and RHA services for Looked after Children and produce timely reports for the same

CPD, Audit & Clinical Governance:

  • Participate in CPD activity
  • Support on-going audit within the care group
  • Observe the clinical governance requirements of the post
  • The precise job plan and clinics will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant and in negotiation with the relevant Clinical Leads and Care Group Lead.
  • Likely daily and weekly activities are described below although the exact timetable will vary in order to meet the needs of the service.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent ST6 level or above in relevant Paediatric specialty: Community Child Health, Neurodisability, Child Mental Health or General Paediatrics
  • Full registration and licence to practise with General Medical Council or eligible if currently working overseas
  • MRCP, MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
  • Level 3 Child Safeguarding training
  • Level 3 Child Safeguarding training
  • Other LAC specific training
  • Other degree/qualification in Paediatrics
Experience
  • Experience in Community Paediatrics, and Neurodevelopmental and LAC assessments
  • Ability to manage clinical care of complex patients
  • Audit/QIP: evidence of understanding of audit principles and having taken a lead role in completing at least 2 audit/QIP projects in clinical areas relevant to this application
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals, presentations at national or international level
Skills
  • Effective communicator and team worker
  • Ability to conduct a comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessment of children with suspected developmental problems with understanding of relevant psychosocial factors
  • Ability to compile a comprehensive report within defined timescales
  • Ability to liaise effectively with other professionals and agencies to ensure appropriate treatment and support
  • Ability to review a child and write a SEND/EHCP report
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary/multiagency team
  • Ability to diagnose and manage a child with ASD and/or ADHD
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of recognised tools for the assessment of developmental disorders e.g. Griffiths Mental Developmental Scales, SOGS etc.
  • Understand multiagency working in the context of safeguarding
  • Familiarity or expertise with recognised tools for the assessment of suspected ADHD and ASD (ADOS/ADI-R/3DI)
