A leading healthcare provider is seeking a Speciality Lead Sonographer in Stoke-on-Trent to oversee General Ultrasound services. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in scanning, leadership skills, and a post-graduate qualification in ultrasound. You will collaborate with a team to maintain optimal service delivery and manage workflows. This is a part-time, permanent role with a competitive salary ranging from £55,690 to £62,682 per annum.
Speciality Lead Sonographer – General Ultrasound (Band 8a)
We are looking to recruit an experienced, highly motivated, dynamic, innovative and professional individual to join an established team of Speciality Lead Sonographers as a lead for General Ultrasound. You must have a flexible approach to working and a desire to further develop and progress the ultrasound service. You will support the operational management of the service ensuring appropriate workflows are maintained. A key component of the role is the management of in‑patient flow and Rapid Access pathways to ensure optimum service delivery and effective utilisation of resource.
You will work collaboratively within the team of Speciality Lead Sonographers supporting the management team in achieving departmental goals. You will provide leadership and support the education of Sonographers, Trainees and Support Workers. You should hold a Post Graduate qualification in ultrasound and have extensive clinical experience within both acute and outpatient settings. Leadership and demand management experience is essential.
The Imaging Department provides a range of General Medical Ultrasound services which are managed and supported operationally from the Royal Stoke site. Clinical services are provided from Royal Stoke, County Stafford and multiple smaller community units. From April 2026 we will also provide services from the new Clinical Diagnostic Centre in Hanley.
The department provides out‑patient services and supports our busy acute in‑patient portals, plus offers a variety of sub‑speciality scanning including vascular, paediatric, MSK and Head & Neck.
We are a large modern department with a variety of equipment. We are a fast‑paced, dynamic and vibrant department with an interesting and challenging case load. We provide a 7‑day service including bank holidays on a rotational basis.
