Job summary

A public health organization in Blackburn is seeking a Locum Specialty Doctor in ENT. The successful candidate will provide general ENT services, manage outpatient clinics, and deliver pre and post-operative patient care. Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Join the team of senior medical personnel and provide general ENT services.

  • Be responsible for pre, post, and perioperative care of patients undergoing surgery.

Job description

Applications are invited for Locum Specialty Doctor in ENT to join the team of Consultants and wider medical and nursing staff in the Ear Nose and Throat Department of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

We seek an enthusiastic and self motivated person to join our forward thinking team. The post holder is expected to provide predominantly general ENT services. We are looking for a team player with an enthusiasm for teaching and training

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join the team of senior medical personnel consisting of a team of 6 consultants and 1 Associate Specialists and 5 Specialty Doctors mainly based at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital but with some sessions at the outpatient department at St Peter's Health Centre in Burnley and our elective theatre suite at Burnley General Teaching Hospital. On call duties will be at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

All the Consultants provide a general ENT service and in addition they have a sub-specialty interest.

The post holder will hold regular independent outpatient clinics and will be responsible for formalising patient care pathways. This involves care of adult and paediatric patients.

The post holder will also be responsible for pre, post and perioperative care of patients undergoing surgery as well as provision of care for the in-patients. This involves care of adult and paediatric patients.

The department is supported by the following medical staff: , 1 ST3+ trainees, 2 Junior Clinical Fellow, 1 FY2 trainee, 1 CT2 and 1 FY1 trainee. With further support from 1 ACP and 1 Specialist Nurse.

Job responsibilities

This is a fixed term post to maintain the provision of ENT services for elective and emergency patients. The successful candidate will be expected to autonomously undertake outpatient clinics and elective surgery. The post holder will be encouraged and supported to develop their specialist interests as per departmental requirements

The on-call commitment will be on a 1:8 basis (prospective).

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
  • MB ChB or equivalent
  • Previous experience within the NHS
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent Higher degree (Ear, Nose & Throat)
Training
  • Evidence to show scope of relevant experience and practice for the role
  • Attendance at appropriate professional meetings and courses
  • Development of a subspecialty interest within ENT
  • Awareness of basic research methods
Experience
  • Minimum of six years of experience in ENT at Specialist Registrar or Staff Grade or Specialty Doctor or Clinical Fellow leve
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion independently in a range of ENT problems within the specialty
  • Minimum of 6 months experience of working within the NHS
  • Ability to lead when appropriate
  • Ability to work independently
  • Attendance at courses in teaching, appraisal and mentorship. Organisation of Educational meeting
