We highly value the contribution that the Specialist Practitioner (School Nursing) makes to improving outcomes for children, young people and their families, using evidence‑based, early intervention strategies.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Specialist Practitioner (School Nursing) to join and complement our forward‑thinking Dorset 0‑19 CYP Public Health Teams in the Purbeck and Poole West localities. This is a permanent part‑time post of 22.5 hours per week, year round, with no weekend work, some hybrid working and flexible hours. The role requires travel across both localities and presence within teams and schools.

Applications from candidates that require current Skilled Worker sponsorship to work in the UK are unfortunately ineligible.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and participate in the School Nursing core programme under the Healthy Child Programme.
  • Work in partnership with children, young people and families, the Local Authority, Early Intervention Services, Children’s Services, schools and other health care providers.
  • Manage the members of the 0‑19 team effectively, delegating within the skill mix team and sharing knowledge and skills across the team.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist interventions and packages of care for an allocated caseload, promoting independence and autonomy.
  • Communicate effectively in verbal and written form, handling highly complex, sensitive, or contentious information in difficult situations using de‑escalation, mediation, resolution and professional Duty of Candour.
