A leading healthcare organization in Wales is seeking a Medical Engineer to support users of medical equipment across acute and community hospitals. The role involves advanced fault-finding, conducting maintenance on complex electronic systems, and supervising junior staff. Experience with specialist medical equipment is essential, and knowledge of the Welsh language is desirable. This position offers a rewarding challenge with commitment to equality and diversity.
The Medical Engineering (EBME) Team supports all users of medical equipment in the acute and community hospitals within the Health Board, ensuring that equipment is always safe for use and that it performs as expected, maintaining the safety of both the users and our patients.
Undertake highly advanced fault‑finding and diagnostic testing on complex highly specialist medical equipment.
Exercise judgement to determine the causes of faults in devices with multiple complex and inter‑related systems (e.g. electronic, computer and mechanical systems).
Carry out preventative maintenance schedules on all specialist medical equipment, including:
Undertake repairs or modifications on highly complex mechanisms and systems down to electronic component level.
Verify that all equipment performs to manufacturer and service specification; perform calibration, safety, quality and acceptance testing.
Maintain a system of control and specialist equipment records as part of an existing ISO9001 certified Quality Management System.
Participate in regular service meetings and develop/design maintenance procedures/protocols.
Supervise, plan workload and take responsibility for any other medical technical staff or engineers when they are performing work under the post holder's direction.
Supervise trainees and students on placements.
The successful candidate will be appraised on a yearly basis, and with a view to develop their knowledge and skills where appropriate.
Previous experience of specialist medical equipment is essential, supplemented with extensive knowledge on the repair and maintenance of complex electronic systems.
Candidates should also have experience in the supervision and workload planning of other junior members of staff.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
