A leading healthcare provider in the UK seeks a Specialist in Elderly Medicine. The successful candidate will provide exceptional patient care within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality standards. Responsibilities include inpatient care, participation in governance, and support for CESR applications. We are recruiting for a Specialist Grade in Elderly Medicine who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and have the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
A Consultant Geriatrician led team has been established for over 5 years to assess frail elderly admitted with a wide range of acute problems. The team provides Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment in ED and newly built Frailty Assessment Unit, fully supported by a Multidisciplinary Team. A recent development is establishment of Frailty Same day Emergency Care unit as part of Acute Frailty Unit. Frail Elderly patients expected to be discharged within 48 hours are admitted to Frailty Short Stay Ward, where care is delivered by the Acute Frailty Team comprising of dedicated Consultant Geriatrician, Frailty Specialist Nurse and middle grade. In addition there are 3 Frailty Base Wards and 1 Community inpatient Unit at Sheppey. The department also supports an established Orthogeriatrics service and Surgical Frailty Liaison Service. Specialist Clinics delivered by the department include Falls and syncope Clinic, Movement Disorder Clinic, General Frailty Clinic and a recently established Rapid Access Clinic for Elderly.
The successful candidate will have an opportunity to rotate through various services and gain exposure to all subspecialties within Geriatrics. This greatly enhances the chances of successful completion of CESR application process with dedicated support from experienced Consultants within the department.

The post-holder will work in a large and diverse multidisciplinary team providing best possible inpatient care for elderly patients.
The post holder must promote safe and effective handover of patient care in line with Trust Governance.
The post holder will be required to actively participate in clinical audit and implement its results and relate these to the Trust and Directorate policies on Clinical Governance.
The post-holder will be encouraged to work toward achieving their requirements and competencies for entry onto the specialist Register for Geriatrics (CESR support provided with a proven track record for progressing candidates applying).
There is an expectation that the post holder will participate in medical audit/ quality improvement initiatives.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
