Job description
Specialist Clinical Fellow - General Surgery

This job is for a Specialist Clinical Fellow to provide care for patients for designated Consultant / team, providing support to ST1/2s and FY1s and receiving support / training from Consultant staff.

To participate in the elective and emergency surgery take of colorectal and upper gastrointestinal firms in a busy district general hospital.

Frimley Park Hospital is a busy district general hospital. The fellowship comprises of upper and lowergastrointestinal and colorectal surgery. Both offer access to theatre including laparoscopic and roboticlists. Additional training in endoscopy and ERCP is available and it is expected that the fellow willparticipate in clinics.

The hospital and operates an on call emergency general surgery block, and it is expected that the fellow will participate in a full elective and emergency rota

Main duties of the job

The post allows access to laparoscopic and robotic surgery. The position also aligns as a UK training post. Opportunities to attend theatre lists, clinic, endoscopy and ERCP are provided.

The post holder will responsible for:Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting to the specialty and referred to the specialty.Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriateCommunication with on-take firms as appropriateIn conjunction with the admitting clinical teams and the wider health economy to develop and implement integrated surgical and emergency care pathways throughout the Trust

  • Able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English

  • Evidence of leadership qualities (not necessarily in medicine)
Experience
  • 4 years post qualification experience of which 2 years of which must be in a general surgery post at ST1/2 level or equivalent
  • Demonstrates experience of teaching and training ST1/2 or equivalent and F1s
  • Competent in basic procedures e.g. CPR, infection control, physical examination, history taking etc.
  • Experience working at middle grade in a surgical speciality
  • Has participated in clinical audit
