About the role

Department of Microbiology, Virology and Infection Prevention Control — Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Virology. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic HCPC-registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Virology to support the Virology diagnostic laboratory. The successful candidate is expected to have experience in an NHS Virology/Molecular laboratory. The role includes weekend working (Saturday shifts). The department provides an extensive range of investigations to support the specialist paediatric patient population and offers a specialist service to other hospitals. This is an opportunity to work as part of a very experienced and dedicated team in a well equipped, ISO15189 accredited laboratory. Main duties

Main purpose of the job

  • To assist in the provision of all aspects of the clinical diagnostic service as part of the Directorate of Core Clinical Services and Medicine Tests and Therapies (MTT).
  • To work within, on a rotational basis with other biomedical scientists, one or more sections of the Virology laboratory including serology, viral real-time PCR, pan-bacterial and 16S PCR, sequencing.
  • To participate in the research activities of the department.

General

Any other duties, which may be required for the provision of the laboratory service subject to agreement between the manager and the post holder.
