Head of Payments Platform Engineering – Barclays

Role Overview: The Head of Payments Platform Engineering will lead the end-to-end engineering strategy, architecture, and delivery of our next-generation payments platform. This role is critical in building a modular, secure, and scalable platform that supports a wide range of financial products and services.

Qualifications:

• 8-10 years of experience in software engineering, with a strong track record of delivering complex, user-facing applications in regulated, large-scale environments, ideally within Investment, Asset, or Wealth Management.
• Deep expertise in React or React Native, with hands‑on experience in secure API integration, authentication flows, and front‑end architecture.
• Skilled in writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, with a strong grasp of TDD/BDD practices.
• Comfortable designing and operating in both on‑prem and cloud‑native environments, with working knowledge of AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Advocates for observability and service health, using tools like Prometheus and Grafana to ensure reliability and performance.
• Champions quality and security, embedding testing and scanning into CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows.
• Passionate about mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and driving technical excellence across teams.
• Energized by fast‑paced, regulated environments where speed, compliance, and innovation go hand‑in‑hand.
