Software Engineer - 36 hours

Want to use your coding skills in a meaningful way whilst working from home?

As a Software Engineer, you will directly contribute to making a real difference at BPAS. You will be valued for your contribution in a small, friendly, highly skilled IT team that supports an organisation with ambitious plans for the future.

This is a remote, full-time role (36 hours per week, Monday to Friday). A detailed working pattern is available below.

About You

You will have an ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels of the organisation in a positive and friendly manner and a methodical, disciplined, and analytical approach to problem solving.

Main duties of the job

You will bring:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline or equivalent demonstrable professional experience.
  • Proven technical coding ability and hands-on experience developing and maintaining complex applications and integration scripts.
  • Experience investigating, identifying and contributing to the resolution of software and technical issues, including working with third-party suppliers and specialist resources.
  • Experience in systems integration and delivering well-engineered integration solutions.
  • Experience producing and maintaining clear system documentation and change-control records.
  • A strong sense of responsibility for data security, integrity and confidentiality, and working knowledge of information governance / data protection principles.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a small team and across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, code, test, verify, document and maintain complex applications and integration scripts.
  • Proactively identify and recommend improvements to systems and processes.
  • Review and assure the quality of software delivered by external suppliers, collaborating with them to resolve issues.
  • Support the organisation's business intelligence and analytics needs by developing technical solutions that enable accurate reporting.
  • Protect and maintain the security, integrity and confidentiality of data in line with BPAS information governance standards.

Hours: 36 Hours per week | Monday to Friday

Monday to Thursday 09:00 - 17:00

Friday 09:00 - 15:30

Qualifications
  • Qualified to a degree level in a Computer Science or Technology discipline/hold a professional qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. MBCS or equivalent) or demonstrate work experience to an equivalent level
Experience
  • Practical experience in software development, delivering high-quality software solutions.
  • Experience identifying and resolving software and technical issues collaboratively with third-party suppliers and specialists.
  • Experience in integrating software systems effectively.
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize workload, including scheduling and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience in documenting systems and procedures clearly and comprehensively.
