The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Social Worker to join our South Adult Locality Team. This is well-established and supportive Adult Social Care Team based at Town Hall, Weston- super- Mare with hybrid working. The team covers Weston, Worle areas and surrounding villages


In this role, you will work within key legislative frameworks including the Care Act 2014, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Mental Health Act 1983, you will make defensible decisions in partnership with people with care and support needs, supporting them to take positive risks in order to promote and balance their independence, safety and wellbeing.


As a Social Worker you will be undertaking Care Act Assessments, and co-producing care and support plans with individuals, identifying their strengths and assets to determine person-centred outcomes. You will undertake Mental Capacity Assessments and be involved in Best Interest Decision making. You will hold a manageable caseload and will have shared responsibility for coordinating safeguarding enquiries in a person-centred way.


You will use your social work knowledge, skills and values to promote the rights and choices of people with care and support needs.


You will work in close partnership with people with care and support needs, their families, carers and a range of multi-agency partners to achieve desired and eligible outcomes.


Key Responsibilities


  • Undertake Care Act assessments, reviews, care and support planning in line with statutory guidance

  • Apply the Mental Capacity Act and contribute to Best Interest decisions


Safeguarding Interventions


  • Work collaboratively with health colleagues, providers, and other agencies to deliver coordinated responses to complex needs

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and statutory frameworks


This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.


Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.


This position is currently based at our Castlewood offices in Clevedon. Please be advised that this office will be closing in 2025. Consultation is currently underway to determine the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood. This will be at Weston-super-Mare or within North Somerset.

However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.

  • 2-3 days in the office

  • Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.

  • Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.

Essential Criteria


  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England

  • Demonstrable experience in statutory adult social care, particularly within learning disability services

  • Strong working knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Human Rights Act, and Safeguarding legislation


Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and make sound, defensible decisions


Effective partnership working with multi-disciplinary professionals, individuals, and families.


Desirable Criteria

Previous Social Work Practice


Ability to prioritise tasks and be able to work under pressure
