Skin Cancer Advanced Nurse Practitioner

This is a newly created ANP post and an exciting opportunity to join our established skin cancer nurse team Mid Cheshire Hospital Trust in Crewe and Northwich. The current team consists of an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Surgical/CNS and cancer support worker, this is an additional post to join this team.

You will join an established team of consultants, Advanced nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialists and become a key member of the wider Dermatology Department.

Main duties of the job

You will deliver a mix of clinic types and will be integral to delivering the highest standard of care to patients throughout their journey.

This post supports the Department's strong focus on providing quality patient care in a sustainable service delivery model.

About us

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond.

Job responsibilities

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) in Dermatology (skin Cancer) will use their specialist knowledge, skills and experience in providing Dermatology care to patients with suspected or proven skin cancer attending the Dermatology departments within the Diagnostics & Clinical Services Division.

The successful candidate will work as a self-directed independent practitioner managing a defined caseload of patients for regular follow-up care and treatment. The ANP skin cancer will undertake physical examination (including dermoscopy), complete medical history and arrange further diagnostics tests (bloods, imaging, biopsy) for patients presenting with new undiagnosed lesions.

The ANP will inform the strategic direction of the Dermatology Department regarding the continued development of nurse led Dermatology care within skin cancer services. They will have a role in the development of skin cancer services within the Trust ensuring this relates to the needs of patients and is in-line with NICE Guidance strategic, operational and National objectives. They will coordinate effective communication across the multi professional team, between departments and the community. The ANP will provide specialist education and development for nursing staff and colleagues through education programmes, individual development programmes and clinical supervision.

The ANP will directly support the nursing team and junior doctors to complete competency-based training programmes appropriate to their level. The ANP promotes excellence in nursing practice through the integration of expert clinical practice, education, consultancy, acting as a resource, developing practice and commitment to research and audit.
