Job description

We are looking for a dedicated and practical Site Supervisor to join our team at Edgmond Hall. This is a key role to ensure the maintenance, security, and presentation of our Centre buildings and grounds are at the highest standards. You will play an important part in creating a safe, welcoming, and inspiring environment for visiting pupils, staff, and the wider community. This role is located near Newport in Shropshire (not centrally to Sandwell as the advert may imply).

At Edgmond Hall, we welcome 100's of children and young people every month, to take part in adventurous residential trips and "learning outside of the classroom" visits. The Site Supervisor has a key role in ensuring the buildings and grounds of Edgmond Hall provide a safe, welcoming and inspiring environment. Working alongside the domestic, gardens and volunteer teams; the Site Supervisor will ensure the safety and efficiency of day to day operations by responding to things such as maintenance issues, minor repairs and adverse weather situations under the guidance of the Head of Centre.

Assisting with planning the development and upkeep of the grounds and buildings, will be a key part of the role. Ensuring that the site remains fit for purpose and continues to develop to provide 'wow' moments to all who visit.

Other key areas of the role will involve supporting the team in the preparation of spaces, responding to call outs as part of the on call team and being a member of the Centres Health and Safety committee.

There is potential that the successful candidate could be provided with accommodation on site (2 bedroom detached cottage) at a reduced rental rate.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and improve the Centre’s buildings, gardens, and grounds, including conservation and woodland areas.
  • Ensure site security, including key-holder duties and emergency call-outs.
  • Carry out routine inspections and minor repairs, and liaise with contractors for larger works.
  • Supervise gardening staff and volunteer groups, and provide technical support during conservation and animal care sessions.
  • Undertake Health & Safety checks and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with regulations (Fire Safety, COSHH, water hygiene, etc.).
  • Care for small animals and assist with environmental management projects.
  • Operate and maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment, including driving minibuses and trailers when required.
  • Support seasonal tasks such as snow clearance and site safety measures.
Qualifications
  • Experienced in building maintenance, gardening, grounds care, and DIY tasks.
  • Knowledgeable about Health & Safety practices and risk assessments.
  • Practical and hands‑on, with excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexible, able to work occasional weekends, overnight on‑call duties, and respond to emergencies.
  • Customer focused, approachable, and a strong team player.
  • Clean driving licence (ability to drive a minibus is desirable).
  • Experience in maintenance, gardening, and small animal care.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to undertake training and adapt to new technologies.
