Job description

We at Randstad are seeking a proactive and technically proficient Site Engineer to provide crucial engineering support and technical oversight for an Under-bridge Replacement Project at Rickmansworth. This hands‑on heavy civil role is responsible for implementing the design on‑site through accurate setting out, ensuring quality control, managing daily site records, and upholding rigorous safety standards under the direction of the Site Agent.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide primary, accurate setting out and dimensional control for all elements of the under-bridge replacement, including piling, foundation bases, abutments, and reinforced concrete structure.
  • Interpret and translate complex engineering drawings, specifications, and CAD data into practical site activities.
  • Manage and maintain survey equipment (Total Station, GPS) and site control stations, ensuring calibration and accuracy.
  • Produce and manage as-built surveys and drawings reflecting the completed works for quality records.
Quality Assurance & Engineering Support
  • Implement the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) regime, ensuring all construction activities meet specified tolerances and quality standards.
  • Conduct and document pre-pour checks on reinforcement (rebar), formwork, and holding down bolts before concrete placement.
  • Raise Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical queries promptly to resolve drawing discrepancies or site‑specific design issues.
  • Assist the Site Agent with the management of Temporary Works, ensuring compliance with design and procedures.
Site Coordination & Safety
  • Supervise and coordinate the daily work of site operatives and specialist subcontractors, ensuring they work to the correct engineering information.
  • Maintain a presence on site to monitor progress and enforce best practice.
  • Assist in the preparation, briefing, and implementation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), particularly for high‑risk activities like heavy lifts and working adjacent to live infrastructure.
  • Maintain all essential daily site documentation, including the site diary, photographic records, and allocation sheets.
Qualifications and Certifications
  • Degree, HNC, or HND in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Site Engineer on heavy civil engineering projects, specifically involving bridge construction, structural works, foundations (piling), or rail/highway interface.
  • Proficient in setting out using modern survey equipment (Total Station, GPS) and processing data using AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
  • Working knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., NEC).
Mandatory Certifications
  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) or Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) certificate.
