Overview

Whitstone School is seeking to appoint a dedicated and hardworking Site & Compliance Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Site & Compliance Manager to assist in the general maintenance, development, and upkeep of the school building and grounds. The role will play a key part in ensuring a safe, efficient, and effective learning and working environment for both students and staff. This role is essential in maintaining a positive environment that enhances the wellbeing and educational experience of the school community.

This role requires flexibility, teamwork, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive school environment.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain the school site and grounds to a high standard, ensuring cleanliness, tidiness, and safety.
  • Act as a key holder with responsibility of opening up the school site at 7am and maintaining site security.
  • Assist with Health & Safety compliance by monitoring and performing routine checks.
  • Set out chairs for assemblies, ensuring proper arrangement and space for events.
  • Assist with setting up equipment and furniture for special events, meetings, and exams.
  • Ensure that essential utilities such as heating, lighting, and water are operational at all times.
  • Carry out day-to-day maintenance tasks, minor repairs, and general maintenance duties.
  • Collect and assemble waste for collection.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and external contractors regarding maintenance issues and schedules.
  • Order and manage equipment and supplies necessary for the maintenance role.
  • Distribute deliveries in an efficient manner.
  • Drive the school van as required for tasks, deliveries, or maintenance duties (valid driver's license required).
  • Follow the school's Health and Safety policies in all operations and tasks.
  • Inform the Site & Compliance Manager of any issues or damage to buildings or areas within the grounds.
  • Perform any other duties related to the role as reasonably required.
Safeguarding and Student Welfare
  • Uphold the school's safeguarding policies to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Ensure all safeguarding training is completed and up to date.
Essential
  • Experience of facilities maintenance or a similar role within an educational or commercial environment.
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical and general building maintenance skills.
  • Familiarity with Health & Safety regulations, including risk assessments, asbestos, COSHH and safe working practices.
  • Ability to carry out minor repairs and general DIY tasks confidently and efficiently.
  • Good communication skills to liaise with staff, students, contractors and external agencies.
  • Experience with completing routine compliance checks.
  • Experience in working as part of a team and independently, managing workloads efficiently.
  • Knowledge or certification in manual handling and working at heights.
  • Valid driver's licence, with the ability and willingness to drive the school vehicle.
  • Proficiency in using basic IT systems for maintenance reporting and task management.
Desirable
  • Experience of 'iAm Compliant' School Software is desirable.
Hours

37 hours per week. 7am - 3pm Monday to Thursday, 7am - 2.30pm Friday - All year round.
