Overview

Shop Supervisor FTC

Location: Unit 1A Cliff Road, Blackwood Gate Retail Park, Blackwood, Caerphilly, NP12 0NT. 15 hours per week inc weekends on rota. 3 months fixed term contract to cover long term sick. Salary: £12.36 per hour plus reward and benefit scheme.

Sue Ryder is one of the largest charity retailers in the UK with over 400 shops. Every item sold funds our care and support services, including 2.7 million hours of expert medical, practical, bereavement and emotional support each year in our hospices, homes and community settings. Our shops contribute to a broader purpose: providing care for people at end of life or living with grief.

We have a presence on high streets across the country with a range of shops including boutiques, vintage and retro stores, and larger formats. As a member of the retail team, you’ll help inspire communities to provide more care through innovation and collaboration, while contributing to the income that funds Sue Ryder’s services.

We value our people and aim to ensure you feel valued and included as part of a team. In retail, most work every weekend; managers typically work 1 in 2. We do not expect teams to work past 5.15pm in most shops. The earliest start is 8.45am. We have Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day off.

The Caerphilly charity shop offers second-hand items (books, clothing, electricals) and new goods, with all funds supporting our palliative and bereavement services.

Responsibilities

• As Shop Supervisor, use your retail experience to drive business, push sales and achieve targets.
• Lead a team to deliver excellent customer service to donors and customers.
• Work with the local community to generate sufficient donated stock to drive sales.
• Recruit, train and retain a team of volunteers, providing leadership and guidance alongside the Shop Manager.
• Set high standards of merchandising and housekeeping, prioritising health and safety.
• Manage stock processes to keep the shop well merchandised with fresh, seasonal stock.
• Act as a brand ambassador for Sue Ryder and support in-store campaigns and national fundraising initiatives.
• Help manage stock processes through the EPOS system.

Qualifications and Skills

• Retail experience with commercial awareness to deliver sales.
• Positive attitude, good judgement, and proven team leadership skills.
• Ability to lead a large team of volunteers and engage with people.
• Good understanding of financial and IT administration.
