Job Title: Ship Structure Specialist - Liquified Gas Containment Systems

Responsibilities
- Work as a technical member of the Specialized Ship Structures team, carrying out design appraisal, independent calculations, and consultancy against Class Rules and statutory codes. Primarily focusing on LNG membrane containment systems, with potential involvement in other gas containment systems (e.g., Ammonia, Hydrogen) and other ship types as needed.
- Provide design appraisal, design support, and answer a wide range of technical queries to internal and external clients globally, including designers, shipyards, LR surveyors, and other specialists.
- Contribute ideas and creative solutions for structural problems through direct calculations and application of LR Rules and Regulations and other international standards.
- Support Technology and Rule Development Projects and Proposals to keep LR Rules up to date with industry developments.
- Assist the team leader and senior team members in bidding for new projects by accurately estimating time requirements.
- Manage plan approval projects, monitor progress and spend against budget and contractual requirements.
- Actively pursue client satisfaction and generate new opportunities with clients.
- Collaborate with LR teams and other departments; perform additional duties as assigned by the Specialised Ship Structures team lead or line manager.
What you bring
- Degree in naval architecture, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution.
- Experience in ship structural design (including fatigue calculations) and applying Class Rules to the design and construction of liquid gas containment systems. Desirable: practical application of LR Gas Ship Rules & Gas Fuelled Ship Rules and IMO IGC/IGF Codes.
- Experience working in shipyards and/or for ship-owners is desirable.
- Working knowledge of regulatory bodies (LR, IACS, IMO, flag States, EU) and how they operate and interact.
- Understanding of structural features and arrangements of liquefied gas ships and their containment systems, including sloshing effects and strength considerations.
- Understanding of operation of liquefied gas ships (loading/unloading).
- Membership of an appropriate professional institution; working toward Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
- Proficiency in English (written and oral) for technical reports and design appraisal documentation.
- Understanding of Classification Society responsibilities and the interface between Class Rules and Statutory Regulations.
