The role

If so, FBC UK has exciting opportunities for mechanical and electrical specialists to join our FMCG engineering maintenance team in Blackpool, Lancashire. As a Shift Maintenance Engineer, you’ll provide high-quality support to our production operations by maintaining, repairing, and improving plant and equipment—ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime across our biscuit manufacturing systems. This role requires a proactive approach to both planned and reactive maintenance, with a strong emphasis on safety, hygiene, and product quality.

You’ll be part of a team of 20 skilled mechanical and electrical FMCG engineers, supported by a management team that actively encourages professional development and internal progression. Whether you're a mechanical engineer, electrician, or multi-skilled maintenance specialist, this is a fantastic opportunity to broaden your expertise, increase your value, and be rewarded for your growth. Our maintenance teams operate seven days a week, providing 24-hour coverage via a 5 - 5 - 4 shift pattern, with both day and night shifts available. Overtime is paid at 1.5x the standard rate, and Easter and Christmas shutdown periods are paid at overtime rates for those scheduled to work.

Key accountabilities
  • Professional Development: Engage in a structured development plans to enhance your technical skills and qualifications in required areas
  • Hands-On Maintenance & Repairs: Perform planned and reactive maintenance on a wide range of high-speed food production equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance
  • Technical Problem Solving: Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults across diverse machinery, including ovens, mixers, conveyors, and packaging systems
  • Operational Support: Collaborate with production teams during changeovers and start-ups to maintain smooth operations and reduce delays, plus flexibility to support shift work and overtime
  • Safety & Compliance Focus: Work in full compliance with Health & Safety, food hygiene, and 5S standards, while proactively identifying and reporting risks
  • Continuous Improvement & Projects: Drive equipment reliability through improvement initiatives and support engineering projects such as installations and upgrades
Skills & experience

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Multi-skilled Engineer with a time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent skills, knowledge and experience) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, offering strong fault-finding abilities across either discipline
  • Proven experience in fast-paced manufacturing or hgihgy regulated environments
  • Committed to safety and standards, with solid understanding of health & safety, food safety, and hygiene regulations
