Service Manager – UEC Worthing

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Urgent and Emergency Care Directorate at Worthing Hospital for a Service Manager. This will be vital as we drive forward our improvement programme that includes a brand new Same Day Emergency Care unit opening in July and a significant service redesign of our Emergency Care and Urgent Treatment Centre pathways.

This fast‑paced role will join an existing strong directorate team supporting them, and the Divisional senior management team through the co‑ordination of performance monitoring, clinical governance reporting, project work, and gathering relevant information and production of reports as required.

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role‑specific criteria.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be directly responsible for supporting and co‑coordinating others to deliver timely and effective business support across the Directorate, which will require strong planning, prioritising, administrative and organisational skills. The post holder will be responsible for leading, developing and improving the overall management of administrative services for the Directorate and for the day‑to‑day line management of our managers, leads and administration staff, ensuring all statutory and mandatory training requirements and appraisals are maintained.

Job responsibilities
  • Take a proactive lead in the day‑to‑day operational management of all UEC services acting as the designated operational lead for the directorate, resolving internal and external barriers to patient flow, with appropriate escalation.
  • Use the highest degree of motivational and negotiating skills, ensuring an atmosphere of collaboration across the service area to deliver a programme of continuous improvement in a challenging and demanding environment.
  • Work closely with the Clinical Lead and Matron in a triumvirate approach supporting service delivery and cascade and escalation of information enabling the delivery of the Trust’s strategy and objectives.
  • Challenge internal and external parties where necessary to overcome barriers to change and understanding and to ensure that learning is shared and that risks are mitigated and reduced.

Experience / Qualifications
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience of working in urgent and emergency care in an NHS organisation.
