Overview

Service Manager – BPAS Norwich Clinic

Are you passionate about leading & motivating a team to ensure the delivery of a high-quality service? Do you want to be part of a professional team delivering high quality abortion care supported by a comprehensive training package? BPAS is seeking a Service Manager (we call them Treatment Unit Managers) to lead reproductive health services in our Norwich clinic. To support a smooth transition, there will be a significant handover period providing valuable insight into the service. It doesn’t matter if your background is commercial, corporate, or clinical; you can use your leadership & management skills to ensure BPAS services are delivered effectively.

The role:

You will be responsible for ensuring the provision of a responsive termination of pregnancy service that is high quality and client-focused by motivating, engaging, and managing clinical & non-clinical staff effectively. You will actively manage capacity by utilising your team to align appointment templates and ensure the services provided in your clinic, including a surgical termination service, maintain high standards of client care in line with BPAS policies & procedures. You will maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders including local commissioners and the Care Quality Commission (CQC), ensuring the unit is managed in line with regulatory requirements.

Main duties of the job
  • Ensure the delivery of a client-focused, caring, and professional standard of treatment to defined BPAS quality standards and the legislative and regulatory framework.
  • Monitor and investigate client safety incidents and complaints via Datix, reporting outcomes to the Operations and Quality Manager and initiating any necessary action.
  • Participate in the development of annual budgets and monitor and control unit expenditure in line with agreed budgets to maximise unit contribution to BPAS finances.
  • Liaise with other units, Operations & Quality Managers, and the Booking and Information Centre (BIC) to ensure the best use of appointments and session times; work with the Business Development team to secure contracts and maintain business advantage.
  • Ensure effective monitoring of clinical practitioners’ performance against clinical guidelines, defined quality standards and BPAS practices and procedures; initiate remedial action as appropriate.
  • Initiate Duty of Candour contact with clients following any relevant incident, seeking support/direction as needed from the Client Safety Lead and Area Manager.
  • Maintain evidence to demonstrate compliance with CQC regulatory requirements and host inspections from regulatory bodies such as the CQC, Department of Health and Social Care, Fire Service, and Health and Safety Executive.

About You

As an experienced people manager, you will relish leading a team, aim for excellence, encourage development of colleagues, and offer support and coaching. You will set clear objectives and targets for your team and work with them to deliver consistently. You will stay calm under pressure, manage multiple priorities, be detail-focused, and forecast staffing and other resources around future service demand. You will build excellent working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and demonstrate strong communication, problem solving, time management, negotiation, and leadership skills.

You will also bring;

  • Previous managerial experience managing people and financial resources.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting (desirable, not essential).
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory framework, including reproductive health issues.
  • Experience working with regulatory bodies (e.g., CQC) and knowledge of Health and Safety.
  • HND or Degree, DMS or other postgraduate management qualification.

Salary: £42,073 - £50,871 per annum, depending on skills and experience

Working Pattern: 36 hours per week | Flexible during business hours over Monday to Friday

Qualifications
  • A Level standard of education or NVQ3 or equivalent
  • HND or Degree, DMS or other postgraduate management qualification
