Reports to: Associate Director/Head of Service Delivery

About The Role

As Service Manager, you’ll take operational leadership for services within your directorate, ensuring they run efficiently, perform to a high standard, and continue to meet the evolving needs of our patients and communities. You’ll lead the delivery of key service improvements, manage performance, and oversee the successful mobilisation of new projects and programmes. You’ll also provide inspiring day-to-day leadership, fostering a supportive, inclusive and high-performing culture within your team.

Main duties and responsibilities

To work with the Associate Director/Head of Service Delivery to manage service activity to ensure compliance with financial targets and contractual KPIs. To lead the implementation and management of long-term service strategies. To be responsible for the collation of Board and stakeholder assurance/contract reporting. To lead on the provision and delivery of high quality, efficient and effective services within the Directorate, ensuring they are responsive, innovative and meet the highest performance standards. To lead on the implementation of the CQC improvement plan for the Directorate, escalating concerns where appropriate. To manage Directorate communication alongside the Communications Officer. To ensure that activity and high-quality data is captured and analysed to produce performance reports for the Directorate, forecasting trends and developments that may affect service delivery and feeding back to the Associate Director/Head of Service Delivery. To respond to operational pressures using problem solving skills and resolve any systems/process changes as required. To clarify and project manage service developments to ensure key targets are achieved, providing regular feedback. In conjunction with clinical and non-clinical teams, identify and develop opportunities to improve service delivery, including redesign of services to deliver the best patient care/experience. To manage and implement check-and-challenge reviews of service operating plans to ensure they are robust and risks are mitigated. To work with internal and external stakeholders and commissioners to ensure collaborative and effective relationships. Responsible for managing, coordinating and monitoring expenditure and making recommendations for cost improvements where appropriate. To develop proposals for service developments within the Directorate, ensuring implications of service change or developments have been accurately assessed. Line management of direct reports with regular 1-2-1s, annual appraisals, objectives and personal development plans, and ensuring mandatory training is completed.
