Job description
Senior Town Planner – Client-Side (MRTPI Chartered Planner)

A large leading, fast-growing client-side property and hospitality business is seeking a Senior Town Planner to support the Head of Planning across a varied estate—including hotels, offices, commercial spaces, and strategic land holdings in London and the Home Counties. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of complex, high-impact projects from inception to completion within a dynamic owner-operator environment.

The Role
  • Lead complex planning projects from feasibility through to consent, discharge, and delivery.
  • Support site acquisitions with thorough due diligence: policy/designation checks, planning history, and land-use constraints.
  • Undertake site appraisals to determine development potential and risks.
  • Provide proactive planning advice on upcoming and ongoing developments, ensuring compliance with existing permissions and identifying material changes.
  • Monitor live schemes against planning conditions and obligations; advise on compliance strategy and variations.
  • Accurately review drawings and measure to scale using Adobe or similar software.
  • Engage directly with operational teams (e.g., hotel/general managers) on site-specific proposals and the scope/limits of permitted development rights.
Key Responsibilities
  • Advise property, legal, and construction colleagues on a broad spectrum of planning matters.
  • Prepare and submit planning applications for a range of development types.
  • Draft written representations and manage appeals (written reps, hearings, inquiries).
  • Make representations to Local Plans and respond to planning enforcement issues.
  • Lead negotiations with LPAs and statutory consultees to secure timely, positive outcomes.
  • Contribute to wider estate strategy and any other planning-related duties as needed.
Skills & Experience
  • MRTPI Chartered Town Planner (or equivalent) with 4+ years’ relevant experience (client-side, consultancy, or public sector).
  • Strong grasp of UK planning policy and process, with evidence of delivering complex cases.
  • Confident stakeholder manager, able to influence senior leaders and external partners.
  • Solid development management experience and familiarity with a wide range of application types.
  • Excellent report writing, attention to detail, and organisational skills.
  • Commercially minded, pragmatic, and delivery-focused.
  • Heritage experience/interest advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence (essential).
What’s on Offer
  • Competitive package with performance recognition.
  • Complimentary on-site parking.
  • Employee discounts across hospitality/food & beverage (plus broader retail/leisure perks).
  • Cycle-to-work scheme, life assurance, employee assistance programme.
  • “Introduce a friend” referral bonus, recognition awards, and regular social events.
  • Access to pool car and optional car scheme.

Please note: This role is office-based in SW London, five days per week.
