Position Overview

We're looking for a Senior Technical Planner to join our Nuclear; Defence and Civil team, supporting some of the UK's most significant and complex infrastructure programmes. These are long‑term, high‑impact projects that offer the opportunity to be part of something meaningful, shaping the future of the UK's energy and defence landscape. As a Senior Planner, you'll play a key role in ensuring projects are effectively planned and delivered. You'll be central to driving clarity and structure across our programmes, working closely with the Project Managers, technical and commercial teams to ensure timelines, risks, and resources are all aligned. Planning is the driving force behind our project success. In this role, you'll make an immediate impact, working closely with a team of skilled planners to ensure consistency in processes and protect the commercial and delivery interests of the business. From day one, your contribution will be visible and influential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of schedules ensuring clear communication of outputs to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ensure schedules comply with procedures and best practices.
  • Apply Earned Value (EV) principles, analyse variances, and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with lead and management roles to ensure project success.
  • Optimise schedule structures and implement improvements.
  • Apply change control measures (ideally within the NEC contract model).
  • Conduct schedule integrity checks, assess critical paths, and communicate key issues.
  • Work closely with cost engineers, project managers, and control managers to underpin EACs.
  • Develop and maintain resource‑loaded schedules, applying rules of credit where required.
  • Use Bentley Synchro, Primavera P6, and BIM models to create and present detailed project plans.
  • Ensure project plans capture full scope, identify risks and opportunities, and uphold Health & Safety standards.

Required Experience and Skills
  • Experience in planning, developing detailed resourced schedules, and applying EV techniques on engineering projects.
  • Expertise in Primavera P6 and managing a portfolio of schedules.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Awareness of emerging technologies and innovations in project planning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Confident in presenting to external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Preferably a member of a recognised professional body (APM, ACostE, or similar).
