Job description
Overview

Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse (adult or paediatric registrant). We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic nurse to join our teenage cancer unit, caring for young people aged 13-19 years old.

You must be an experienced band 5 or band 6 nurse (paediatric or adult) with haematology/oncology experience. You will have the opportunity to share and develop knowledge and skills in caring for a range of solid tumours and haematology cancers. You will care for patients undergoing a range of treatments including bone marrow transplant, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

You will be required to demonstrate experience and skills in this area and have leadership, development and organisation skills in order to coordinate safe efficient delivery of care to this patient group.

Our unit is committed to the care of young people going through a difficult time in their lives; we work closely with the Teenage Cancer Trust ensuring we treat the young person and not just the cancer. The unit has a group of dedicated nurses who aim to make the unit a pleasant environment.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a high standard of clinical work when carrying out nursing procedures.
  • Administer medications (including chemotherapy) as per prescription and protocols.
  • Responsible for the safe custody of medication, including checking and administration.
  • Help manage staffing across your own ward but also the division and offer support as and when needed.
  • Ensure compliance with our clinical governance framework, motivate colleagues, champion service user safety and dignity, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Work with (and educate) more junior members of the team (as well as student nurses) to promote excellent standards of practice.
