Senior Specification Technologist, ingredients

Location: Blackburn

Type: Permanent

Hours: Days (Monday- Friday 9:00- 17:00 possible earlier start available)

Salary: CIRCA £35,000

Our Client, an ingredients company (part of a global group), are looking to recruit for a Snr Specification Technologist or an experienced Technologist wanting to progress in their career- to work at their modern facility in Blackburn, ideally situated close to the motorway/ good motorway links.

The Senior Specification Technologist will handle daily tasks; including providing technical support to customers, troubleshooting related issues & ensuring the quality and consistency of products. The role involves collaborating with various stakeholders of the business, line managers and addressing client inquiries whilst delivering exceptional customer service while maintaining compliance with industry standards (BRC/ GMP).

The Role:

• Assist with formulation trials, stability testing, and translating R&D products into manufacturing-ready specifications
• Checking associated labelling/artwork and/or formulation against agreed specifications
• Manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure raw material and finished product specifications are accurate.
• Assisting with continued QMS development
• Assisting and completing internal auditing (not supplier)
• Assisting and completing labelling audits
• Assisting and completing GMP audits
• Data entry (Word, Excel, SharePoint etc)
• Deputising for the Technical Manager during annual leave, busier periods and ad-hoc.
• Maintain a strong presence on the shop floor and in the laboratory, collaborating with staff and senior leaders
• Interacting with Clients and reporting updates to Clients.
• Ensuring compliance with UK and EU food and regulations (e.g., FSA, Allergen Labelling, E-numbers, REACH, IFRA standards

The Person:

• Will hold a degree in Food Science ideally or Chemistry (or STEM related)
• Will have worked in a similar QA, Specification Tech or related role in a BRC (or GMP) company (Food, Ingredients, nutraceuticals etc)
• Internal auditing experience (BRC) ideally GMP too but not essential
• Experience in creating and reporting safety data sheet (SDS) information
• Experience using Word, Excel, SharePoint etc
• The ideal applicant will have HACCP certs (desirable)
• Strong interpersonal skills needed.
• Strong leadership skills needed.
