Role Purpose and Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Sector Specialist – Valuation & Investment, you will provide trusted leadership on professional and technical matters within these key sectors of the surveying profession. Acting as an internal subject matter expert (SME), you will develop and maintain sector‑specific standards, guidance, and related professional development resources. This role carries significant external visibility and influence, engaging with government, industry stakeholders, and the profession to ensure RICS remains a trusted authority.

  • Deliver and maintain a substantial portfolio of standards, guidance, and related projects within the Valuation and Investment sectors.
  • Provide timely, high‑quality professional insight and support on emerging issues in valuation and investment.
  • Support the Sector Head and Director in maintaining the professional competency framework and related knowledge base.
  • Represent RICS externally on sensitive professional issues, influencing government and industry stakeholders.
  • Deliver actionable market insight to inform standards, guidance, and CPD development for valuation and investment professionals.
  • Act as the internal SME, advising on professional issues and supporting teams such as Knowledge, Journals, Regulation, and Communications.
  • Mentor colleagues and contribute to strategy and business cases within your area of responsibility.
  • Lead project management for a substantial portfolio of cross‑functional projects, ensuring delivery within budget and timelines.
About You

You are a recognised expert in Valuation and Investment, with a deep understanding of these sectors and a passion for professional excellence. You combine technical expertise with strategic thinking and have the ability to influence at the highest levels.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Extensive expertise in valuation and investment, with a strong understanding of the surveying profession’s role in society.
  • Proven ability to deliver sound business outcomes in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
  • Ability to build trust and credibility with senior government, public, and market stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends in valuation and investment, including technology, data, and AI.
  • Understanding of sustainability and its application within valuation and investment practices.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presenting at conferences.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to handle complex issues quickly.
  • High political sensitivity and ability to manage reputationally sensitive matters effectively.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in IT and adaptability to new technologies.
